Anxiety has been on my mind a lot lately. It’s no surprise that we’re anxious people, because we often rely on our own strength and with the New Year just around the corner, a lot of us are reflecting on this past year, taking the good with the bad, and using these experiences to formulate goals for the next one. We’re insanely busy people, by nature, and amidst the chaos, it can be easy to become overwhelmed and to lose focus on that most crucial of principles: that every good thing comes from above.
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. James 1:17 ESV
God has given each of us unique gifts, that we might bring honor to him and be blessings to others. We can use those gifts in our work and be an influence for good, right now, with what we’ve been given. Our faith and our work do not have to be two separate things; in fact, I would argue that they are closely intertwined. God designed us to be people who work hard and who find our rest and peace in him. He created us to be creative beings, made in his image. He desires for us to find our purpose and place here, and he wants to grow and challenge us to be women of integrity who are steadfast and who always go to him in prayer.
In fact, that is exactly how we find peace and rest. We enter into God’s rest by going to him in prayer and actively reading his Word.
Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, so that no one may fall by the same sort of disobedience. For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joins and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. Hebrews 4:11-12 ESV
Pray for your business to be successful. Not your typical kind of success where you make a lot of money, but the kind of success where you impact the lives of others for the good of the kingdom (Romans 12:6). Start sharing genuinely with your audience and help them cultivate the things that truly matter (Galatians 5:13). Encourage them and be their advocate. Pray against anxiety and pray for you to trust God to do big things in your life: to grow you in ways you didn’t expect and bring people into your life to serve and support (Philippians 4:6-7).
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. -John 14:27 ESV
Don’t be fearful about finances or anxious about having a constant flow of clients coming in, instead bring it all to God in prayer. Trust him completely and ask him to grow you to be steadfast women who is doing her part in being faithful with her business and her family. Be diligent in your work by setting aside time each day to move your priorities forward and be intentional to enter into God’s rest often.
God gives us peace and rest through his Spirit. He equips us with his Word. All we need to do is go to him. Day by day, hour by hour trust in his promises to help guide you, take care of you, forgive you, and bring you into a future of holiness and joy. Doing this will bring you all the satisfaction you need and help grow you into a steadfast, loving, and caring woman of the Lord.
So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, since whomever has entered into God’s rest has also rested from his works as God did in the beginning. Let us therefore strive to enter that rest daily, so that no one may fall into the same sort of disobedience, the disobedience of unbelief.
Hebrews 4:9-11 ESV
I am a Co-Founder of Inspire Her and we created a journal, Inspired Rest, with the hope of helping other women enter into God’s rest one day a week. These journals help you cut out all the noise and just sit at the feet of your Heavenly Father, bringing everything to him and studying his Word. I would highly recommend it if you’re looking for something to help you begin to have a true Sabbath rest day.
